Halloween is by far less exciting now that I am an adult and can no longer go door to door asking for candy. Well I guess I could, but I would get a lot of weird looks and maybe a run in with the police before the night is over. I feel like this is why people have children. So they can once again go trick or treating using their kids to get the candy. And then the moment the kids are asleep you have an infinite supply of candy. I’m going to make a great dad one day.
Anyways, despite my lack of trick or treating I did dress up and go to a Halloween party this weekend, and being a college student I am a huge fanatic of using everyday clothing in a special way to create a low cost (free) Halloween costume. I was torn between going as a farmer or a lifeguard, and like with any major decision in my life I went to Snapchat to help solve my dilemma.
Despite the fact that I am a lifeguard for my day job an overwhelming majority of people elected for me to dress up as a lifeguard for Halloween. So, that’s what I did. But I didn’t wear my normal life guarding uniform, I wore something a little more different.
And a little more scandalous.
Now I am a bold person and do not worry too much about what other people think. Yes I value the opinion of others especially those that are close to me, but there is a difference between valuing someone’s opinion and caring what the Cane’s employees think of you as you eat chicken at midnight in a women’s swimsuit.
With that being said I did come to the sober realization that I would probably be meeting new people at the party and “Caitlyn the Community Lifeguard” makes an interesting first impression. But then I began to think about how this costume is an accurate reflection of who I am. No, not secretly a female on the inside, but a spontaneous person that doesn’t care about being judged and aims to make his friends laugh.
So I walked into the party with confidence and had a great night, filled with great laughs. I even made a few new friends. Honestly the only downside to my costume selection was trying to use the restroom at Cane’s. It was uh… interesting to say the least.
Yes my costume was odd and risky, but I embraced it and had a fun with it. Showing my true colors and not worrying about how others may judge me. As always, make good choices, share if you like what I said, comment if you have something to add, give that follow button a hit, and I will see you on Thursday.
