Why I Support What Brother Jed Has to Say

For those of y’all who do not know who Brother Jed is. AKA those of y’all that do not go to Texas A&M, Brother Jed is a radical bible thumping evangelist that makes the Pharisees seem like tame people. He comes to the campus of Texas A&M each spring to preach. Now bless his heart but Brother Jed spent a little too much time reading Jesus’ sermon on the mount (Matthew chapters 5-7), which basically is an outline of how each and every one of us are sinners and lists all the things we do that makes us sinners.

That is why Brother Jed comes to campus every year. To tell all the students of Texas A&M that we are sluts that smoke too much pot and drink too much alcohol, that we need to repent and be perfect or else face the fiery gates of hell.

Now when I say tell, I don’t mean like casually and calmly. It is more of a crowd gathering shout of such crazy and radical ideas that you cannot help but take notice. Not because you come to the realization that you are going to Hell for wearing Nike shorts, but because his ideas are so crazy its almost entertaining. Each year I am tempted to go dawn my female swimsuit and prance around Brother Jed as he is preaching just to see the reaction I get out of him.

Now I have yet to do this mostly because of another opportunity Brother Jed gives me when he comes to campus. An opportunity to casually have spiritual conversations with those around me. To turn an old mans shout of how I am going to hell for wearing Chaco’s, to an explanation of the Gospel and grace of God. That yes we may not be perfect humans, and yes a slut is sinner, but so am I. And that is why Jesus came to earth and died on the cross, to pay for and negate the sins that you and I commit. No matter how big or small Jesus covered them all.

This is why I like what Brother Jed has to say, and am not completely against his presentation every year. Yes, he speaks so far from the truth, but at the end of the day the truth is still told, and that’s the important part.

As always make good choices, share if you like what I said, comment if you have something to add, give that follow button a hit and I will see you on Thursday.
